This paper examines how Saudi Arabia's foreign policy towards Afghanistan and Pakistan is influenced by its wider engagement with other actors and issues in the region. The authors contend that there are important question marks regarding a Saudi Arabia's role in Afghanistan and that Riyadh sees the Middle East and its surroundings primarily through the prism of its conflict with Iran and therefore follows an anti-Iranian agenda in its dealings with all neighboring states. If this conflict escalates, they believe this will have repercussions for Afghanistan and will possibly endanger any political progress that will have been made until that point.
