This paper examines Canadian perceptions of East Asia's Arctic interests. Using Canada's Northern Strategy and the Statement on Canada's Arctic Foreign Policy as filters, the authors suggest where Asia's Arctic interests may converge or diverge with those of Canada. They also recommend various messages that Canada may wish to emphasize in its interactions with Asian states to safeguard its own national interests, promote sustainable development for the benefit of those who live in the Arctic, and enhance cooperation within the region.
