This paper provides an analysis of the growing geopolitical role of Central and South Asia - including Afghanistan. The author suggests that regional dynamics are emerging which open up the prospect of a new model of regional economic integration. He also argues that the main reason for these changes lies in the emergence of China as a regional and global player and that no geopolitical strategies can be considered or pursued without fully taking into account China's role in the region.
