This brief explores the opportunities offered by the contemporary boom in natural resource extraction in Africa and focuses on how foreign direct investment (FDI) by extractive multinational corporations (MNCs) can be harnessed for industrial development purposes. In also offers a number of policy recommendations for donors to support industrial policies which the authors think could unleash the development potential of FDI in the African extractive industry.
