This article discusses national reconciliation efforts by the government of South Sudan. In particular, it reflects on the government’s planning and implementation of the reconciliation process and how progress can best be supported to achieve sustainable peace in the country. With reference to reconciliation initiatives and programs implemented in other post-conflict African countries, the authors also outline key challenges to achieving peace in the country and offer some related recommendations for the South Sudan government and the National Reconciliation Committee.
