This paper analyzes events in December 2013 relating to Croatia’s accession to the EU and discusses the challenges and expectations of the new political and economic environment in the country. It then explores the implications of Croatia’s accession for the Western Balkans and concludes with recommendations for the Croatian government and other EU member states.
