This brief explores how political, social, and economic pressures are increasingly challenging Jordan’s monarchical system and regime stability. It discusses how such pressures have been dealt with by the monarchy in the past and then outlines how the spillover effects of the Arab Spring uprisings and an increasing alienation of the monarchy’s traditional power base could affect the regime’s stability in the short and long-run.
