This article analyzes the increasing tensions in the Asia-Pacific region at the end of 2013 due to China's unilateral imposition of an Air Defense Identification Zone and the US pivot to Asia. The author contends that China’s aggressive territorial claims, the heightened US military presence in the region and opportunistic moves by Japan contribute to a less stable environment. He concludes by warning that with such tense rivalries, an incident could lead to a chain of events that may result in a regional war, or worse.
