This report provides a strategy for building a politically sustainable US force posture in Southeast Asia and Australia. The authors set out three key principles for achieving such a politically sustainable presence: strengthening bilateral military and defense partnerships; building comprehensive bilateral relationships, including diplomatic and economic ties; and advancing US regional strategy and multilateral cooperation. They then offer recommendations for translating these principles into policy.
