This paper uses the International Futures (IFs) model to forecast the human development of the Western Cape to 2040. According to the results, the South African province is on a trajectory to 1) improve average life expectancy, 2) increase per capita income, 3) increase expected years of education of school entrants, 4) increase mean years of adult education, and 5) develop overall human capability. It further extends the analysis by developing an alternative scenario that gauges the potential for even further improvements in human development to 2040.
