This commentary discusses the relationship between the EU and US in light of revelations regarding NSA surveillance of the former. The author says that the dispute over the surveillance is important as it reveals many aspects of the relationship between the two, including its asymmetrical nature. The author also explores how Europe should cope with this asymmetry and the effect it could have on how the EU and the US collaborate on policy towards the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the negotiations taking place over the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
