This brief looks at China’s increasing economic involvement in the Middle East and North Africa and explains how this has evolved from dependence on the energy trade to a much broader commercial engagement. The author also talks about how governments' in the region see a more influential China as not only a source of growth, but also a way to increase their political leverage in relation to the US and Europe.
