This bulletin talks about the discussion within the EU on how the Union can become more internationally competitive. On one hand, there is Britain, promoting the idea of a “global race" which would see member states undertake difficult economic reforms and adopt their competitors’ strengths. On the other, there is Poland, arguing that the EU must instead reinforce its own sociopolitical model. According to the author, the next stage of the EU’s development will depend on whether it adopts Britain’s proposal or Poland’s. He ends the piece by arguing that for Warsaw to drive the debate, it needs to engage with, and outflank, London.
