This paper talks about the efforts by national parliaments in the EU to secure democratic legitimacy within the Union and how they could further these efforts. The authors argue that although there is no simple solution to the problem of democratic legitimacy in the EU, the most effective way for national parliaments to influence European policies, and to contribute to sound democratic practices in the EU, is to hold their own governments to account and maintain the link with their voters.
