This brief talks about how the difference between Tokyo's and the Washington's views on the extent of China's power have the potential to affect the alliance between the US and Japan. The author argues that while there is considerable common ground in the two countries’ assessment of China, there is a growing gap between the Americans and Japanese on how to respond to China's behavior.
