This conference report summarizes the discussions held at the Extended Deterrence Trilateral Dialogue in September 2013 in Seoul. The first part shares the US, South Korea and Japan perspectives on deterrence and assurance, the balance of power in Asia, North Korea and China as well as changes in the three countries' national defense postures. The second part explores the US role in Northeast Asia and opportunities for trilateral relations between it, South Korea and Japan.
