This paper reviews the work of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) and major developments shaping the peace and security landscape of Africa in 2013. Drawing on experiences in various crisis situations, the author critically examines the roles of the PSC, the African Union Commission, regional mechanisms and international actors, highlighting areas where these diverse bodies did and did not work well together and the implications thereof. In so doing, he identifies existing and emerging issues that require the PSC’s future attention.
