This paper examines the origins of and possible solutions to the energy crisis in Pakistan. The author says that Pakistan's energy sector has become a major drain on the national economy, impeding growth, and diverting resources from more productive sectors. She also says that the government so far has failed to make the necessary policy and governance reforms - including tariff adjustments, removing subsidies, and ensuring a level playing field for all private sector entities involved - to address this issue.
