This is a transcript of a testimony by CFR's Steven A Cook on the political situation in Egypt, including the Sinai Peninsula, and how it affects US national interests in the region. Among other issues, Cook looks at the deteriorating economic and security situation in the region and the increase in extremist violence. He also outlines what the United States could do to help Egyptians meet these challenges.
