This paper explores the theoretical underpinnings and the historical development of international institutions in order to define what the phrase "international community" means. Looking at the phrase through legal, sociological, and critical perspectives, the author argues that the international community represents an intersection of morality and politics in the form of liberal normative ideals played out in global affairs.
