This paper talks about the legal dimensions of what it describes as Russia’s assumption of control over Crimea in early 2014 and where the situation might head in the future. The authors argue that Russia's actions in Crimea contradict the country's international obligations. They also suggest that Moscow’s actions will have long-term negative consequences for European security even if direct conflict between Russia and Ukraine is avoided. The authors conclude with recommendations for NATO and Poland on how to deal with the situation.
