This paper talks about the candidates for the 2014 Slovakian presidential election and their electoral prospects. It suggests that the frontrunner in the race is the prime-minister, Robert Fico. Additionally, it says his election would help consolidate the existing political order in Slovakia and that it might lead to an increase in the constitutional prerogatives of the head of state over the long term. However, the author also says that Fico cannot be sure of winning and that a second round in the elections could lead to a good result for Andreh Kiska.
