This paper looks at the possible consequences of a Russian annexation of Crimea in the context of Russian action in the territory in early 2014. It says that Crimean separatists backed by Russia are pushing for the move, which the authors ague will lead to a long-lasting crisis in Russian–Ukrainian relations. They go on to say that the EU cannot accept Moscow’s argument that Russians in Crimea have a right to self-determination, as this would open the way to further Russian territorial claims against neighboring countries.
