This paper explores the potential impact of what will be South Korea's southernmost naval port, which is now under construction on Jeju Island. Given the greater capacity Seoul will have to protect its shipping traffic and national maritime boundaries, and to accommodate US Naval and Air Force assets, the paper concludes that building the Jeju Civilian-Military Complex Port is a strategically wise decision, particularly if South Korea wants to protect its long-term interests and prosperity.
