In justifying the secession-centered referendum that recently took place in Crimea, Russia cited Kosovo as a historical precedent. This note argues that by invoking this precedent, Russia was referring to the right locale but the wrong example. It would have been more useful to cite the case of Serbia and its response to the 2012 North Kosovo referendum.
