This paper analyzes the impact South Asian diaspora groups have on their countries of origin, with a particular focus on how they affect the size and structure of the region's middle class. To do this, the author examines how diaspora groups have led to an enlargement of the middle class and a reduction in poverty through remittances. He also talks about how returnees have brought economic management skills to, and affected the political orders of, their countries of origin.
