This paper examines the effect that the more inward looking US foreign policy adopted by the Obama administration after the more interventionist Bush era is having on the dynamics of international politics. The author argues that while Obama may deem international politics to be a “space open for dialogue,” the rest of the world still considers it a “struggle for power” and therefore reacts sensitively to the “non-exercise” of US power.
