This note discusses the crisis in the Western Sahara. In particular, the author talks about 1) the origin of the crisis; 2) Western Sahara's natural resources and the controversies over Morocco's claims to them; 3) security concerns raised by an upsurge of terrorism in the Sahara and the possibility that the Polisario Front will resume military action in Western Sahara; and 5) the situation of refuges from Western Sahara in camps in Algeria as well as accusations of human rights violations by Morocco against Sahrawis.
