This paper examines the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's (TRC) approach to accountability and reconciliation in post-apartheid South Africa. It also evaluates the extent to which this approach has been upheld since the commission closed its doors. The author suggests that the level of accountability and reconciliation achieved has been limited, but assigns responsibility for this to the choices made after the TRC was established rather than to the work of the commission itself.
