What negative effects might the recent financial crisis and Lisbon Treaty reforms have on the European Parliamentary Elections scheduled for May 2014? According to this analysis, 1) finding candidates to run for President of the European Commission may prove difficult; 2) the next parliament might be highly Europhobic, and as a result of these two potential problems, 3) the institutional roles of the European Parliament and Commission may be undermined, particularly in relation to the Commission’s President.
