This paper looks at the implications of Russia’s attempted absorption of Crimea for international law and its enforcement. It says that while the secession of Crimea from Ukraine has not been recognized by the vast majority of the international community this has not had any impact on Moscow’s course of action. The author believes that the West should not just accept this situation and that maintaining a persistent objection to Russia’s actions is not only of major importance for Ukraine, but also for the stability of the international order.
