This paper speculates on what impact Russia's annexation of Crimea will have on global nuclear nonproliferation efforts. It concludes that although it is unlikely that Ukraine will withdraw from the NPT anytime soon, 1) the prospects for further nuclear reductions in the world have become bleak, and 2) nuclear deterrence will now play a more visible role in European security and beyond.
