This paper explores Oman’s efforts to preserve regional stability. The author argues that Oman has always perceived political instability in the Gulf and West Asia as a threat to its own internal stability. He contends that this perceived vulnerability also explains Oman determination to prevent any foreign actor in the surrounding region from interfering in its internal affairs. However, he suggests that this independence in Oman’s foreign policy towards its neighbors has a price: political and military dependence on Britain and the US.
