This paper discusses the possible implications of the price increase of Russian gas for Ukraine’s gas market and European energy security. According to the authors, due to Ukraine’s excessive dependence on Russian gas imports and a lack of transparency and privatization in its own gas market, both Ukraine and the EU face a serious threat to their energy supply. They recommend that the EU should therefore provide financial and technical aid to Ukraine in order to enable the country to reform its energy sector and diversify its gas supply.
