This brief examines to what extent central bank independence (CBI) has been achieved in North African countries following the Arab uprisings. It concludes that the uprisings did provide a needed push for securing regional CBI, but further reforms are still necessary. They include greater transparency, merit-based political-economic systems, and the creation of an 'open-learning culture'.
