This report provides an overview of a seminar on collaborative action to fight against illicit small arms and ammunition in Eastern Africa, which took place in Beijing in March 2014. More specifically, it looks how small arms and light weapons (SALW) have contributed to instability and violence in the region; the international community’s efforts to deal with SALW, including the adoption of the Arms Trade Treaty by the UN in 2013; and how African countries, China, and the EU can work together to tackle the problem of illicit SALW in Eastern Africa.
