This report explores the role of gender in the way torture and torture rehabilitation is experienced. The authors first look at the existing literature on the psychological, social, economic, and physical impact of torture and find that the role of gender has not been sufficiently investigated. They then report the statements made by a panel of academics, practitioners, and researchers on the part that gender has in the experience of torture.
