This brief discusses the state of collaboration between development researchers and development policy makers and practitioners. Drawing on the results of two surveys of development researchers and practitioners in Germany, the authors show that both groups are interested in cooperating more. They also identify the main obstacles to better cooperation (poor communication, different time frames and different interests), and the advantages of increased cooperation (additional insights for research and better development outcomes). They also provide recommendations on how the two groups can improve their levels of cooperation with each other.
