This paper examines the main trends in Germany's economic and political relations with Russia. The author discusses how relations between the two became closer following German reunification in the 1990s and then declined due to such events as Russia's war in Georgia in 2008. She also talks about how Berlin-Moscow relations have been affected by changes in the priorities of Germany's foreign and economic policies. Finally, she describes why German politicians increasingly believe that Russia should not be offered new methods or mechanisms of cooperation.
