This monograph addresses the future of President Vladimir Putin's position in Russia and his style of politics - marked by personal rule and relationships - as well as how this could affect the direction of US-Russian relations. More specifically, the author examines four possible future scenarios: namely 1) a status quo, where in spite of a multitude of challenges, Putin's style of politics persists beyond his own position in power; 2) a situation where a number of factors lead Russia to gain a more open political system with a law-based society; 3) the establishment of a limited form of police state; and 4) a scenario marked by dramatic economic decline and the collapse of the political system.
