This paper examines the serious, but little remarked upon, insurgency being conducted by Malay Muslims in Southern Thailand. After canvasing previously failed peace efforts, the text concludes that the Malaysian Initiative of 2013 offers the best prospects for reaching a political settlement between the Thai state and the rebels.
