This report examines the challenges faced by Kurdish populations in Syria, Turkey and Iraq. The author argues that 1) in Syria, the emergence of Kurdish self-government in the north and high levels of political fragmentation among the Kurds generate uncertainty for their future; 2) in Turkey, internal and regional factors threaten the dialogue process between the government and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party; and 3) in Iraq, tensions between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the central government have been fueled by an energy agreement between Erbil and Ankara.
