This note looks at Latin America’s military and law enforcement contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, both now in Haiti and in the future. More specifically, the note explores the opportunities and obstacles such contributions involve. (The obstacles, by the way, include limited resources, inadequate training, and a lack of domestic political support for peacekeeping activities.) The note then concludes by providing recommendations on how the UN and Latin American countries can improve their cooperation in peace-related activities.
