This article discusses the G7 (formerly G8), following Russia’s suspension in March 2014 as a result of Moscow's annexation of Crimea. It first provides an overview of what the group is, including its objectives, how it is organized and its membership. It then discusses the reasons behind Russia’s inclusion to the group in 1998 and why it was suspended in early 2014. It also discusses the role that the reconstituted G7 plays in world affairs, whether the G20 has surpassed the G7 in terms of its importance, and the future of multilateralism.
