This bulletin reviews the democratic transition process in Tunisia and the support given by Poland. More specifically, the author discusses the role played by civil society groups in the transition and the legislation that governs the nature and financing of NGOs. She argues that foreign donors should make use of the authorities’ liberal regulatory approach to NGOs and continue to support Tunisian civil society to ensure that it builds on the gains it has made. She also outlines the main challenges NGOs still face in Tunisia and recommends that Poland continue giving aid to the country as doing so increases Poland’s credibility as a country to which democracy and human rights are dear and raises the chances of developing closer social relations that could form the basis for fruitful cooperation elsewhere.
