The topics covered in this edition of the Journal of Conflictology include: 1) an analysis of how terrorists select their targets; 2) the tension in Afghanistan between conflict resolution and the prosecution of those responsible for war crimes; 3) the rationale behind the establishment of the UN in 1945 and its successes and failures in trying to bring about peace; 4) former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s apology for the British government’s inaction over the potato famine of the late 1840s in Ireland; and 5) the concepts of conflict settlement, conflict resolution and conflict transformation and how they apply to reconciliation efforts in post-apartheid South Africa.
