This commentary discusses some of the challenges which Ukraine's prospective new president will face following the country's presidential elections in May 2014. According to the author, not only will the new president have to deal with Russia’s destabilizing political influence on the country, he is also likely to face renewed tensions between and within the branches of government. The author also outlines how election disruptions brought about by Russian paramilitary groups in Donbas, Luhansk and Crimea, will add an additional problem of legitimacy for the new president.
