This paper discusses perspectives for Pakistan’s foreign relations under Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif. The author argues that it is important for Pakistan’s foreign policy to move away from its traditional bilateralism to prioritize “multi-nationalism” (between nations) and the economy. In particular, he highlights the need to pay attention to two quadrilateral arrangements that are developing on Pakistan’s borders - made up of the US, Russia, Western Europe, China on the one hand and US, China, India, Japan on the other. He then looks at the origins and the challenges and opportunities these create for Pakistan.
