This paper explores how African states can effectively translate their natural resource endowments into sustainable development. More specifically, it explores the possibility of the distribution of resource rents as cash transfers - the so-called Direct Dividend Payments (DDPs) - to citizens. Based on their findings, the authors argue that DDPs could provide a new tool for alleviating poverty in African countries.
