This commentary discusses the 2014 parliamentary and presidential election results in Macedonia and the post-electoral political situation in the country. The author explains how the opposition parties’ boycott of the presidential elections and swearing-in of the president has added to a situation already characterized by non-existent freedom of the media and systemic corruption in the state. These undemocratic practices, he argues, as well as deteriorating Macedonian-Greece relations, should be of major concern to the EU.
